Ogallala.  We're more than down comforters and pillows.  We are building a new agriculture based on the milkweed plant.  As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "What is a weed?  A plant whose virtues are yet to be discovered."

We are focused on learning and discovery.  For instance, did you know milkweed is the sole food source of the monarch caterpillar?  Without milkweed, we won't have monarchs.  We sell seeds to people interested in monarch conservation.

We discovered the oil from the milkweed seed is full of Omega 7's which adds elasticity and suppleness to your skin.  We developed Ogallala Body, our Body Care line that features Syriaca Oil.  www.ogallalabody.com 

We know milkweed oil is good for heart health and are currently awaiting FDA approval for it to be used in functional foods and supplements.

So many things can be done with milkweed.  It will give us years of new discovery and learning, but our first business was Ogallala Comfort Company.  We help people sleep better and when that happens, you live better too.

History

Herb Knudsen is a dreamer, inventor and problem solver.  He worked with Standard Oil of Ohio in 1986 trying to develop a crude oil from the milkweed plant.  Finding it was not economical, they explored other uses for the plant and found it was hypoallergenic and  had amazing insulative properties.  In 1987, British Petroleum took over the company and sold Herb the milkweed project.

While Herb did not have deep pockets, he did have imagination and perseverance.  He tried to sell "syriaca clusters" to down companies to incorporate into their down.  After being laughed out of the meeting, Herb started his own down company.  Focussed on high quality and low volume products.  Coining the term "Hypodown"  Herb worked to prove how Hypodown is actually better than down alone.  It increases fill power, is hypoallergenic and transfers moisture away from the body better.
